The rainy season in Bangkok normally lasts from May through October, with September and October seeing the heaviest rainfall. Bangkok encounters frequent showers and thunderstorms during this time, frequently with significant rainfall. Typically, high and low temperatures during the rainy season are 31 to 33 degrees Celsius and 24 to 26 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Overall, while Bangkok’s rainy season may bring some unpleasant weather, it can also present special opportunity for travel and new experiences. In order to make the most of your trip, make sure to pack appropriately and schedule inside activities.
Read on to find out what to pack for the rainy season in Bangkok, and other tips to satisfy your hunger!
Must Pack Items for the Rainy Season in Bangkok
1. Rain Poncho
Ponchos are multipurpose clothing items used to keep people dry and protected from the wet weather. They have several useful applications and are frequently used in a variety of contexts.
It is advised to use a rain poncho on rainy days so that your clothes could be relatively dry. Rain ponchos do not restrict your movements as well, thus you could walk down the streets of Bangkok comfortably. You could expect to see motorbike riders wearing rain ponchos while biking in the rain.
2. Rain Boots/ Slippers
Do not ruin your valuable sneakers in the rain! Instead, wear rain boots so that your feet can stay dry and protected. Especially since Bangkok roads tend to flood after a heavy downpour, expect your feet to be minimally ankle-deep in the streets.
Personally, I do not own a pair of rain boots. I prefer wearing slippers. It does not provide the same amount of protection and rain boots, but it is more comfortable in my opinion. You could easily get a pair of inexpensive slippers at night markets or online. One downside about slippers is that most of them have no friction, thus it increases the risk of you slipping down on smooth floors.
3. Umbrella
Based on my experience, umbrellas could be quite troublesome to use in rainy weather. If it is extremely windy, it could be difficult to control the umbrella.
An umbrella would be suitable if the rain is not too heavy. I never leave the house without an umbrella, because it could be used as a shield from the hot sun on sunny days too. A UV umbrella prevents you from UV rays since it is created with UV-blocking materials.
4. Bag of extra clothes
Packing a bag of extra clothes is really useful so that you could change into clean and dry clothes if you get drenched in the rain. Although, I personally find this quite troublesome, as I would need to bring around extra weight. If I am bringing out a small bag for the day, I would need to hold an extra bag in my hands which could be a little bulky.
On the other hand, you could feel fresh after changing into a new set of clothes. Thus, I feel that this is up to your own preference whether or not you should bring an extra set of clothes!
These are some of the items I recommend bringing out during rainy days! If you would not be leaving the house, Hungry Hub would like to offer some restaurants with food delivery services so that you could satisfy your hunger despite the bad weather.
