Experience the taste of the king of Thai fruits with an exquisite Omakase course featuring Durian Omakase by Gourmet Fruit First at Emsphere. This fresh and fruitful festival is a collaboration between Gourmet Market Thailand, Tanaa Fruits, and Hungry Hub. Let’s discover the grandeur of this event together!
For the Gourmet Fruit First event or the Fresh Fruit Festival, it is a collaboration between Gourmet Market Thailand, a premium supermarket under The Mall Group, to elevate the ultimate Thai king of fruits, “durian,” to a premium omakase course in Japanese style. The event will be held from June 7, 2024, to June 23, 2024, on the G floor, EM MARKET zone, Emsphere department store.
Durian selected for this premium omakase course menu is sourced directly from Tanaa Fruits, which brings together four durian varieties from the four corners of Thailand, harvested during the best seasons and delivered straight from the orchards for an exclusive tasting experience. The varieties include
- Pala-U Monthong Durian, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province
- Puangmanee, Ochee, and Musang King Durian from Chanthaburi Province
- Nok Yip Durian from Uttaradit Province
- Salika Durian from Phang Nga Province
The durian will be served as an 11-course omakase meal, where guests can enjoy the experience from bar-style seating, similar to a traditional Japanese omakase. While waiting for each course, guests can also watch the chef’s preparation, creating an authentic Japanese omakase dining atmosphere.
For the first six courses, premium durian varieties will be served with Oolong tea. It begins with “Nok Yip,” known for its abundant flesh, sweet taste, and perfect creaminess. Next is “Mon Thong Pa La-U,” a royal variety bestowed by Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra, featuring thick flesh, light yellow color, and a rich, sweet flavor. “Salika” is a local variety named after the Salika bird and grown in the mineral-rich and natural hot spring areas of Bang Pakong, giving it a unique character distinct from other varieties.
Course 4: “Ochee” is considered a rare durian variety. Its texture is unique compared to other varieties as it lacks fibers, has a milder aroma, a smooth and fragrant taste, and is sweeter than the Long Stem durian. Course 5: “Musang King,” originally known as the king of durians in Malaysia, is now cultivated in the eastern region of Thailand, particularly in Chanthaburi. It is known for its sweet and fragrant flesh. Course 6: “Puangmanee” is an emerging new variety with small, palm-sized fruits. It has a delicate, golden-yellow flesh and a deliciously sweet flavor.
Let’s move on to the desserts. Starting with the Cream Cheese Durian Cake, which is the 7th course. This dessert uses the Nok Yhip variety of durian, crafted to perfectly complement the fragrant, rich, and moderately sweet cream cheese cake. It’s ideal for those who prefer durians with a milder aroma and serves as a great way to awaken your taste buds.
Course 8: Mille Feuille Durian – This fusion dish combines layers of crispy puff pastry, made with fresh French butter, with burnt long-stem durian. The durian is lightly torched to create a unique aroma and flavor, adding an extra dimension to this exquisite dessert.
Course 9: Refreshing Mangosteen Lychee Sorbet, made from high-quality export-grade mangosteen, transformed into a delightful iced beverage and beautifully garnished with flowers. Its sweet and tangy flavor is perfect for cleansing the palate before moving on to the next dish.
Almost the last, but not the very last, is the 10th course: Mousse Durian Sticky Rice. This three-layer dessert consists of pandan-infused sticky rice at the bottom, followed by perfectly salted coconut cream, and topped with crispy durian from the Puang Manee variety. This combination creates a perfect balance without feeling too heavy.
Ending with the 11th course, premium durian wrapped in 24K gold, served with oolong tea. This surprising and luxurious dish features durian adorned with 24K edible gold leaf, 99.99% food grade, and is accompanied by oolong tea to enhance freshness.
