Is the summer heat in Thailand unbearable for you? Hungry Hub would like to recommend some Thai desserts and 5 restaurants with these desserts! These desserts are extremely refreshing, thus you could stay cool despite the weather.
5 Most Popular Thai desserts
1. Mango Sticky Rice
Mango Sticky Rice, also known as Khao Niew Ma Muang, is the most famous Thai dessert. It is made with glutinous rice that is sweet due to the palm sugar and coconut milk added. Fresh and sweet mango slices are served on the side.
Creamy coconut milk and fried mung beans is served with the dessert. It is best to be consumed immediately after purchase, because the sticky rice could be hardened when left exposed. It could easily be found at street stores, or any Thai restaurants.
2. Butterfly Pea Sago Pudding
Butterfly Pea Sago Pudding is a coconut milk pudding that is blue in colour due to the butterfly pea flowers. It contains sago, sugar, and coconut milk, however, do not get shocked by the ingredients. It is not as sweet as it sounds.
This dessert is extremely aesthetically pleasing due to the natural vibrant blue colour from the butterfly pea flower. Sago has a similar texture to tapioca pearls in bubble tea, however sago is much smaller. Do remember to take some pictures of this dessert!
3. Roti Kluay (Thai Banana Roti)
Roti Kluay is a pan-fried dessert with that is similar to Crepes. Roti is a general name for Indian flatbread, however a thin dough is used for the roti in this dessert.
You could choose other toppings, but banana is the most common filling. This dessert is topped with sweetened condensed milk and sugar. The crispy dough together with the sweet and soft bananas inside, drizzled with condensed milk and sugar is an extremely delicious combination!
4. Tub Tim Grob
Tub Tim Grob directly translates to “crunchy ruby”, hence this dessert is known as Red Ruby. It is made with water chestnut, tapioca starch, coconut milk, and pandan water. The red colour comes from red food colouring.
This dessert is served cold with coconut milk and ice. Water chestnut also has many health benefits such as being a good source of fiber, potassium, and various healthful antioxidants, thus this dessert is highly recommended.
5. Khanom Bueang
Khanom Bueang is a very popular street snack that you could easily find at the street stores in Thailand. They are tiny crispy pancakes filled with sugar and egg white meringue and either sweet or savoury toppings.
It has a similar shape to Mexican tacos, but in a miniature version. The dough is made of rice flour, mung bean flour, sugar, eggs, and red limestone paste. This is definitely one of my favourite Thai desserts!
